乔治·索罗斯（George Soros）（1930年8月12日出生于匈牙利的首都布达佩斯，匈牙利名字是Soros György）是一位匈牙利出生的美国猶太商人。著名的货币投机家，股票投資者，慈善家和政治行動主義分子；现在他是索罗斯基金管理公司和开发社会研究所主席，是外交事务委员会董事会前成员。他以在格鲁吉亚的玫瑰革命中扮演的角色而闻名世界；在美国以募集大量资金试图阻止喬治布殊的再次当选而闻名。

家庭
乔治·索罗斯的父亲蒂瓦达•索罗斯是一位世界语作家，索罗斯出生在匈牙利，一直到1946年都生活在这里。
二次大战期间，索罗斯在匈牙利黑市交易货币。索罗斯14岁时，德国在战争的最后时期取得了对他的同盟国匈牙利的军事控制。索罗斯的祖父是一位纳粹治下的匈牙利官员，他在女婿提瓦达•索罗斯的帮助下，负责聚敛犹太人的财富的工作。乔治·索罗斯也因此而避免了与许多犹太人一样的命运。

早期生活
索羅斯是索羅斯基金會的創辦者。在1970時，他和占·羅傑斯（Jim Rogers）一起創立了量子基金。在接下來十年間，量子基金回報率超過40倍以上，而且創造了索羅斯大部份的財富。
在1992年9月16日的黑色星期三，索羅斯更以放空100億以上的英鎊而聲名大躁，並利用英格蘭銀行頑固堅守英鎊匯率和一個可與其它歐洲匯率機制參加國相當的利率水準而獲利。而最終英格蘭銀行還是只能被迫退出歐洲外匯機制並且讓英鎊貶值，估計索羅斯在此役中獲得了約11億美元的利潤。也因此他被封為“讓英格蘭銀行破產的男人”。
時代雜誌，1992年10月26日星期一：“直到黑色星期三為止，我們的部位已經幾乎超過 100 億美元。我們計劃要賣出更多。事實上，當 Norman Lamont 在貶值的前一刻還在說他將要借入將近150億美元來保衛英鎊時，我們被逗樂了，因為我們也正想要再賣出那麼多。”
在1997年，在與其氣氛相類似的亞洲金融風暴中，馬來西亞首相馬哈蒂爾·本·穆罕默德則指控索羅斯打壓馬幣。

在黑色星期三时（1992年9月16日),当索罗斯放空了超过价值100亿英镑,受益于英格兰银行的强大阻力来将英镑的汇率升值以符合欧洲货币汇率机制的国家或浮动汇率.最终,英格兰银行被迫将本国的货币撤出欧洲货币汇率机制,并不得不使英镑贬值,在此过程中,索罗斯至少赚了11亿美元.他被授予"使英格兰银行破产的人"的称号.
